marketing services

Does the idea of door-knocking and cold calling make you feel uncomfortable?  You’d be amazed at how much marketing and publicity can be generated from within your comfort zone!

I offer personalised marketing plans and advice for self-publishing authors, including (but not limited to) help with price setting, advice on planning and negotiating a book launch, and generating sales for your book.  I am happy to map out each step of the way for you and provide valuable tips that you’d normally only learn by trial and error.

I understand the publishing process, being the author or illustrator of several published reports and books, as well as having edited, proof read and designed numerous books for publication.  I have considerable experience in business development, marketing and management roles, and I have an MA(1st Class Hons) in history and literature.

I aim to help you save money by providing you with guidance and valuable tools, rather than eating away at your budget by doing the footwork for you.  That way, you keep control of the marketing of your book and don’t become reliant on third parties.

I recognise that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea to go out door knocking and cold calling in order to drum up sales and publicity.  The advice and marketing plans that I provide are designed for you alone, so I will take into account the types of marketing activities you feel that you will be comfortable with when I build your individual plan.

I invite you to email me or have a chat with me about your book (or other literary project) and your aspirations for it so that I can help you to make your work the best that it can be.  I charge a very reasonable hourly rate and can provide quotations or estimates for my work so that you can keep control of your costs.  I look forward to working with you!

As well as personalising marketing plans, I have put together a simple, generic report that includes some of the more common marketing information that self-publishing authors ask me for, including:

  • how set prices and points of difference

  • how to arrange local media coverage (for free!)

  • how to negotiate and organise a book launch on a budget

  • how to begin marketing your book locally.

The report, titled Some Low-Cost Marketing Tips for Self-Publishing Authors, is intended for those on a really tight budget. It provides some handy, low-cost marketing tips at an inexpensive $13 a copy, which simply covers printing costs, some of my time, and free postage within New Zealand.  If you would like a copy, click here to email me.

  Some feedback on the report:

"Hi Meg, I received the report. Have read through it and have found many good tips and ideas. I was quite excited to read it. I would recommend this to anyone to read. I also know someone looking into self publishing and will pass your details onto them and advise them of your valuable report.  Thanks very much for that."
